Firewire believes that in addition to the products that we make and our efforts to reduce the toxicity of our business practices, we also have a responsibility to support those individuals and organizations whose primary goal is to make the surfing world a better place.

In 2017 Firewire donated product and funds that exceeded 5% of our 2017 net profit to the Surfrider FoundationShare the Stoke Foundation and SurfAid to name 3 of the most visible. In 2018 we are expanding our support for like-minded organizations to include Surfers Against Sewage, and Parley for the Oceans.

The Surfrider Foundation

Firewire is one of the Surfrider Foundations strongest supporters, and the proud recipient of the 2013 Surfrider WAVEMAKER award for our fundraising efforts. Surfrider CEO Dr. Chad Nelsen, “Rarely do performance, conservation and sustainability come together. Firewire has done this in their product, which could be said to share the core elements of Surfrider’s mission of “protection and enjoyment”.

In 2015 Firewire went a step further in the US and introduced the Addvance Surfrider colab model with distinctive Surfrider branding and $75.00 per board donated to the organization. The program will continue into 2016 and beyond and will raise significant funds in support of Surfrider’s all important efforts.

In 2016, Firewire joined the Surf Industry Coastal Defender initiative and we look forward to supporting Surfrider for many years to come.

SURFAID

Firewire donates boards to support fundraising efforts, and also participates each year in the SurfAid Cup held at Malibu Beach in California, raising an additional +$5,000 dollars for the organization.

ROB MACHADO FOUNDATION

Our planets need clean oceans. Our youth needs clean drinking water. We have a solution for both.

The Rob Machado Foundation was founded upon the fundamental belief that our planet needs to be taken care of, and there’s better place to start than with our local communities and our children. What started out in the early days as the introduction of gardening programs at local schools — encouraging children to connect with the land they live on and the food they eat — has evolved into a water filling station program across a growing network of schools and public places that helps deliver clean, filtered water while encouraging reusables over single-use plastic water bottles. While this is the core focus of our foundation, we supplement our efforts to keep plastic and other trash out of our waterways with trash and recycling solutions at beaches, schools, surf events and local beach clean ups.

We believe our youth are the stewards of our planet. We believe communities can come together to impact change. And we believe the future starts here.

PARLEY FOR THE OCEANS

There is no magic fix for complex ocean threats. But there are simple steps you can take right now to be part of the solution.

Parley for the Oceans addresses major threats towards our oceans, the most important ecosystem of our planet.

We believe the power for change lies in the hands of the consumer – given we all have a choice – and the power to shape this new consumer mindset lies in the hands of the creative industries.

Artists, musicians, actors, filmmakers, fashion designers, journalists, architects, product inventors, and scientists have the tools to mold the reality we live in and to develop alternative business models and ecologically sensible products to give us earthlings an alternative choice, an everyday option to change something.

To succeed, we need to find ways to synchronize the economic system of humankind with the ecosystem of nature. And make environmental protection fiscally lucrative for pacesetting major companies.

Parley has been created to accelerate a process of change that is already in progress. No other big movement in the history of humankind has developed faster than the environmental cause. We want to make sure we are fast enough to meet the ultimate deadline and turn the ship around before we lose a treasure we have only just started to explore and still don’t fully understand: the fantastic blue universe beneath us — The Oceans.
